Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a type of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s immune system. The two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Lymphoma occurs when lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, grow abnormally.
Common Symptoms
- Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin
- Itching
- Fever or night sweats
- Unexplained weight loss
- Persistent fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Chest pain or cough
- Shortness of breath
- Abdominal swelling or pain
Diagnosis
Doctors may use the following tests to diagnose lymphoma:
- Physical examination and medical history
- Blood tests
- Lymph node biopsy
- Bone marrow biopsy
- CT scan or MRI
- PET scan
- Immunophenotyping and genetic testing
